Summary
Discussing the role of Nutrition in overall health, well-being, healthy habits, and more with Melissa Yamashita. A 52-year-old wife, mother of 2 boys, 2 dogs, and full-time High School Spanish teacher. She started exercising consistently about 15 years ago when her older son was a toddler. At the time working out had become her social event and escape. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Nutritional Science from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in California but was not super motivated to be a registered dietitian since that job involved working mainly in hospitals which didn’t exactly excite her.
Food and how it has such a powerful impact on one’s overall health: emotionally, physically, and mentally is exciting. She did a lot of traveling which opened her eyes and heart to different cultures and languages and ultimately she became a Spanish teacher. In the 25 years that she’s been teaching, she’s also been exercising at various levels and has cycled through many different ways of eating (vegetarianism, veganism, etc). Now she has a way that works for her and has recently received a certification as a Nutrition Coach with the hopes of eventually focusing on menopausal women/athletes to help them achieve their goals.
