Welcome to another enlightening episode of Pockets of Knowledge! In this edition, I have the pleasure of sitting down with Julie & Emma Lucido, an inspiring mother & daughter who have made it their mission to combat plastic waste in their community. As the founder of The FillerUp Shop, Julie’s passion for sustainability and her drive to provide safe household, hair, and body care products have ignited positive change.
Throughout our conversation, Julie shares her transformative journey, from discovering the harsh reality that most of our plastic waste goes unrecycled to her relentless pursuit of sustainable alternatives. It was her determination to make a difference that led her to establish The FillerUp Shop—an innovative refill store where people can replenish their products, all while minimizing their consumption of single-use plastic.
Julie sheds light on the importance of reducing plastic waste for a sustainable future. Her insights will inspire you to reconsider your plastic consumption and join the movement toward a greener world. Discover how one person’s commitment creates a ripple effect of positive change for individuals and the planet we call home.
Julie Lucido, the founder of The FillerUp Shop, is a passionate environmentalist who is committed to reducing plastic waste in her community. After discovering that most plastic is not recycled, Julie spent months searching for household and body care products that are safe for the planet and do not come in a plastic container. Her search led her to open The FillerUp Shop, a refill shop that helps people in the community reduce their reliance on single-use plastic.
Julie holds a degree in Liberal Studies from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, and spent over 18 years as an elementary school teacher. She also worked in sales and teacher training before founding The FillerUp Shop. When she’s not working in the shop, Julie enjoys traveling, hiking, and reading. Emma Lucido, the assistant manager at The FillerUp Shop, shares Julie’s passion for the environment and sustainability.
Emma has been working at The FillerUp Shop for over a year and hopes to become the manager one day. She is currently pursuing her Bachelor’s degree at Boise State and has experience in office administration and sales.
Emma enjoys learning about the many plant-based products sold in the shop and is always eager to share her knowledge with customers. In her free time, Emma likes to play, watch movies, journal, and cook.
